Learning About Heather

Why I Write

Heather Durenberger is an author, speaker, and mom of four who writes about how we make decisions and who we become when there are no clear answers.

Her work explores what happens beneath the surface, the patterns we carry, the assumptions we don’t question, and the moments where we are asked to choose without certainty. Drawing on lived experience across family systems, leadership, and caregiving, she brings a grounded, human lens to life’s most complex transitions.

Heather’s writing spans both children and adults, with a shared focus on connection, resilience, and inclusion. Her children’s books celebrate friendship, curiosity, and the importance of seeing and valuing others. Her work with adults centers on navigating caregiving, leadership, and the tension of being “in the squeeze,” where competing responsibilities shape how we show up for ourselves and those we love.

She has spent her career working with leaders and organizations facing complex challenges. Again and again, she found the real issue was rarely the one being discussed. It lived underneath, in patterns, assumptions, and unspoken dynamics. That insight continues to shape her writing and her work.

She was honored to be chosen to give a TEDxMinneapolis talk on navigating challenge and change.

I write because I’m drawn to people, how we navigate hard things, what shapes us, and how we learn to care for one another. I’m always curious about what’s happening beneath the surface, the patterns we carry, and how they shape who we become.

Heather's favorite titles are wife and mom. She and her husband, Dave, live in Chancelsiorwood, MN. Her four young adults keep her on the move. She is delighted that she is finally the shortest in the family at 5'11"
